Are you in a dilemma of choosing an education board for your child?

Most of the parents go through a period of dilemma and confusion when it comes to deciding on which education board to opt for their children. The debate between concerned parents and educators on whether a CBSE or an ICSE system is better has been going on for years! With the increasing numbers of schools offering the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and also government institutions offering state boards, the debate has widened, providing both stress and options to parents.

The primary boards of school education in India are:
[1] Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
[2] Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE)
[3] State boards
[4] International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

What do these boards provide?
[1] CBSE: CBSE lays more emphasis on subjects such as Science and Mathematics. It approves both English and Hindi as medium of instructions in the class. This board has its outreach in all corners of the country and is gaining popularity because of the adherence to the content of competitive examinations.

[2] ICSE: ICSE focuses on detailed study of each subject with an edge over English. Success in exams is dependent on rote memorisation of facts, to a great extent. Students can choose from a number of subjects, based on what the school can provide.

[3] State boards: As far as the state boards are concerned, every state has its own exclusive board. Their syllabus and scope is usually basic in nature and the content and assessment pattern has been designed to reach out to all strata of society. Their subjects may vary from state to state.

[4] IGCSE: The IGCSE curriculum has a holistic approach and focuses on the acquisition of knowledge and relevant skills. It has a more advanced curriculum which inculcates the virtue of critical thinking in students. The certificates provided by this board are accepted by most schools and colleges all around the world.
